Room by Room : Episode RXR-1705 -- More Projects »
PHOTO

Simulate the look of fabric using paint, glaze and a weaver's brush.
Materials:

latex satin base coat paint (Yellow Flicker SW1367) (Sherwin-Williams)
glaze (Ralph Lauren #DN09) (Glidden)
painter's tape
weaver's brush
paintbrushes
acrylic artist's paints
paint roller/covers
paint tray

Steps:

1. Apply the base coat and let dry.
2. Tape-off 27- to 36-inch panels around the entire room to simulate wallpaper panels. You'll be creating the technique in every other one, and then go back to fill in the remaining panels.
3. Roll the glaze over a panel. Immediately pull a weaver brush down through the glaze over the entire panel, and then across horizontally. Repeat on every other panel and let dry. Remove the tape and repeat procedure on remaining areas of the wall.

4. Tape-off one-inch stripes every six inches around the room and paint them white. Remove the tape when dry and add a small wavy vine (freehand) along one side of the stripe for more color along with tiny buds here and there to add detail to the design (figure A). Let dry.
