Host Joan Steffend tours the condo of a woman who takes advantage of every square inch of space to make her home feel roomier. She took the selling point of the condo, the veranda, and created another room out there to expand the size of her home with little vignettes outside each window. To break up the long, narrow patio, she put a small bistro set in the center anchored by a large area rug. To bring life to a plain living room, she put in a raspberry-colored sofa for a tropical flavor and rounded out the setting with ottomans and a small armchair as to not overcrowd the space. A small piece of artwork is made more prominent with an oversize gilt frame surrounding it (figure A). She created a sitting area in the corner to look out onto the patio. In the bedroom she hung rattan place mats on the wall as art.
