Apartment Home Tour
Decorating Cents : Episode DCT-1708 -- More Projects »
Host Joan Steffend meets a woman who gets a few perks from being an apartment manager--getting things others leave behind. Here's how she's combined it all into a stylish look of her own:
- As other kitchens in the building were refurbished, she took the leftover cabinets and added them to her own space. She painted them red and changed the hardware for a cohesive look. One of the cabinets was actually an old sink unit. To hide the contents she topped it with a colorful floor runner and a glass top from a coffee table.
She discovered the ceiling in her bathroom was lower than necessary so she had it removed to take advantage of the dead space for towel and linen storage. It's all hidden behind theatrical-looking balloon curtains. She disguised the plain bathroom mirror with a shimmery scarf and placed a decorative mirror on top.
Luxurious fabrics and layers of pillows create an elegant look in the master bedroom. She installed a fabric wall cushioned with batting to combat the noise from the apartment next door.
- She transformed the unrentable space in the basement into a relaxation spa. She painted a mural on the drab concrete wall and draped sheer fabric on the overhead pipes to soften the look.
