Decorating Cents : Episode DCT-1701 -- More Projects »
Host Joan Steffend meets a man who gave his builder-beige town home a new personality with charm and character. - The master bedroom has an elegant Old World look with luxurious fabrics and layers of pillows. The new duvet and pillow coverings were stitched together from fabrics purchased at a remnant store. The headboard consists of a piece of $7-a-sheet plywood, carpet padding and more remnant fabric. A pot rack holds fabric to form a canopy framing the bed. The window treatments are actually women's scarves hanging from clip rings.
- The homeowner's daughter's bedroom features window treatments made of more fabric remnants with a $1.99 grab bag of costume jewelry used as fringe. An old sewing machine table has been transformed into a functional dressing table.
The loft area is used as both a temporary bedroom and home office. The bed frame is actually made of stock kitchen cabinets with a piece of plywood nailed to the top (figure A). Curtains on a ceiling track provide privacy when needed.
A gold glaze over the brown-painted walls in the bathroom adds dimension. The white fan vent was replaced with a beautiful carved wall hanging. The shower curtain rod consists of a copper pipe and candle cups. An old grandfather clock acts as a curio cabinet and a rustic urn hides the hair dryer when not in use.
