Host Joan Steffend and designer Karen Lynch give a master bedroom a sophisticated new look with a monochromatic color scheme and crisp, clean lines.

  • The walls are painted a fresh new shade of taupe with a sand finish.
  • A simple three-panel bed frame is created out of 1x8s. The boards are attached with flat brackets and upholstered with black fabric. Each piece is connected with corner brackets and secured behind the bed with a 1x6.
  • A triptych above the bed is created by covering three artist's canvas with batting and patterned fabric. Three red pillows repeat the look on the bed.
  • The mauve curtains are replaced with the cleaner lines of etched glass shutters.
  • The '80s oak dresser, nightstands and trunk are updated with black paint. The trunk is dressed up with an upholstered top.
  • A clothes valet is created out of an old chair, a wooden hanger and a swing-arm rod.
  • The top of the dresser features a lighted floral display made out of copper tubing and artificial flowers.
  • A full-length dressing mirror is turned on its side and transformed with 1x4s and copper wire scrolls.
  • Two torchiere lamps are made into table lamps and painted with a copper finish.
  • A copper floral cone holds branches on another wall.
