Figure A
Carol Dickinson's multipurpose space makes it possible for her to complete a multitude of daily tasks all in one room, including laundry, ironing, gift wrapping, flower arranging and general crafts.

The large work island contains storage underneath and a hole in the center of the maple top is used for depositing trash into a container directly below. Wall-to-wall cupboards (figure A) contain a variety of items arranged by task. Gift wrap is stored in trash cans on the lower shelf and plastic containers store craft materials. One cupboard houses her ironing board, which pulls out from the wall. The hutch in the center provides a focal point and a convenient place to dry flowers and display her collection of baskets.

Easy-care terra cotta covers the countertops and backsplash. A deep farmhouse sink with a painted country motif makes it possible to fill tall vases with water.
