Book Covers

Country Style : Episode COS-309 -- More Projects »
Old illustrations on paper were designed by artists before mass production. Photocopying them for decorative accents is a fun way to bring a vintage look into your home. Be sure to only make copies from books out of copyright, which means they must be 100 years old or older. Flea markets and estate sales are the best places to look for these older books.

Design expert Matthew Mead shares his quick and easy ideas for re-creating a vintage printed charm in your own home.

  • Some books will have a bookplate or a label of the person who owned it near the front. Mead makes multiple color copies and lines them on a shelf for a charming border.

  • Create book covers and cover frames with color copies of botanical prints, postcards or old postage stamps.

  • Make copies of sheet music in soft colors or a sepia tone. Use the paper for wrapping gifts, on frames or as a wall covering in a music room.
