Reinventing Country

Country Style : Episode COS-308 -- More Projects »
Like many homeowners with a passion for design, Liz Pierce is constantly updating the design of her home to keep it fresh and exciting. She used to be into an all-white look, but now she's discovered an ancient fabric painting technique that has become the catalyst for her latest country transformation.

The loft space is primarily made of up long, narrow spaces. She's used fabric panels instead of solid walls to divide the spaces into individual "rooms." A daybed niche is created behind one set of curtains, which creates a private reading nook and small space for overnight guests.

After living with an all-white minimalist look for a number of years, Pierce added some color with hand-printed fabrics. The ancient fabric painting technique is called kalamkari and originated in India. The process involves carving a design out of wood then dipping it into ink and onto the fabric. Pierce has incorporated various motifs, including a paisley pattern, cornflower design and small daisy print.
