Personalize a tabletop with paint to fit any desired style.
Materials:

acrylic paint
polyurethane
3/4" poplar plywood (two 4'x4' pieces)
wood glue
clamps
drill
drywall screw
string
pencil
jigsaw
belt sander
sandpaper (120- and 220-grit)
router with a roundover bit
primer
paintbrushes
nail

Steps:

1. The featured tabletop is 35 inches in diameter. To obtain this measurement, glue the plywood pieces together and hold them in place with clamps (drive a drywall screw that's slightly shorter than the finished thickness into the center of the bottom to make sure they're tight). Flip the boards over and locate the exact center of the square by drawing lines from each corner to the opposite one to make an X.
2. Tie a pencil to the end of a long piece of string and tap a nail through the string 17-1/2 inches from the pencil. Tap the nail in at the center point of the tabletop and slowly draw a circle to create the 35-inch diameter. Slowly cut the circle out using a jigsaw and sand the edges smooth.
3. Slowly route the edges for a rounded detail (make several passes for a clean look). Sand the edges with 120-grit followed by 220-grit sandpaper for a smooth finish.
4. Prime the top and edges and allow it to dry. Apply two coats of the base color, allowing it to dry between layers. Paint the desired design and seal with polyurethane once dry.
