This room is comfortable but a bit outdated so interior designer Toby Strogatz brings it up to speed (without breaking the bank) by giving it the graceful style of a Celeste Cooper master bedroom:- The space is emptied of everything except the wall-to-wall carpeting, which exposes the need for a dramatic change. In order to make it look classic and modern, the carpeting is removed to reveal beautiful hardwood floors. Some inexpensive sisal area rugs create warmth in the room.
- Taupe paint warms the walls and accents the original moldings.
- A comfortable corner for reading is added including very unusual bookshelf towers high above a dark wood stool and chair. The shelves are designed to hold books horizontally for a neater look and a parson's table void of accessories acts as a modern desk.
- An upholstered headboard is the perfect combination of utility and luxury because it's great for reading in bed. Instead of buying an expensive one for this space, plywood is covered with batting and beautiful silk fabric. The bed is then dressed in gunmetal gray sateen sheets in keeping with the neutral color palette while a simple bench and dramatic night tables complete the area.
- Candlesticks and vases in nickel and ceramic provide the perfect "Celeste Cooper" accents and a few pieces of affordable artwork plus a gold sunburst mirror over the mantel finish the transformation.
