The Secondhand Garden
Country Style : Episode COS-304 -- More Projects »
This clever garden goes on and on filled with fun recycled and handmade objects. For Susie Dentt, this hodgepodge of country throwaways has found a place in her garden and her heart. With her whit and whimsy, Dentt's garden showcases ideas that anyone can bring to their own outdoor space to add personality and country sparkle!
- The backyard is divided up into "rooms" with all kinds of flowers, vegetables and interesting garden containers. The boxwood-edged raised beds house a cut flower garden, rose bushes and vegetable garden.
- After she added the raised garden, she constructed a potting shed, water garden and working garden complete with egg-laying chickens. A large patio area for al fresco dining is directly behind house.
- Dentt has decorated her gardens with some wild flower-filled containers, including a bathtub outside of the potting shed. She's also created a "kitchen" garden with herbs potted in an antique stove and washing machine and various kitchen utensils, including a hanging colander.
- Other objects that serve double-duty as planters include rubber garden shoes, a rusty wheelbarrow, old kitchen chairs and even an old rowboat!
