Recycle clear glass jars of assorted sizes to make snow globes with your own unique winter scene.
Materials:

clear glass jars (jelly, mayo, baby-food, etc.)
glycerine (available in the cake department of craft stores)
silver and/or gold glitter
distilled water
assorted glass, plastic or ceramic figurines (toy cars, trees, etc.)
medium- grit sandpaper
epoxy glue
small paint brush
oil-based enamel paint (optional)

Steps:

  1. Choose a figurine that fits on the lid and in the jar.
  2. Clean jar and lid well. Dry lid thoroughly, then sand the inside surface to create a bonding spot for the epoxy glue. Paint the exterior of the lid with enamel paint, if desired.
  3. Adhere figurine to the sanded area of the lid with epoxy glue. Allow to dry for 12 hours.
  4. Fill the jar 3/4 full with distilled water. Screw the lid onto the jar and check water level. Add more water, if needed.
  5. Add three drops of glycerine to the water. Use sparingly, as too much will cause the glitter to clump.
  6. Add a pinch or two of glitter to the water. Stir with a spoon to see if more glitter is needed. Too little glitter will settle too fast and too much glitter will hide the figurine.
  7. Line the inside edges of the lid with epoxy glue and screw it back on the jar tightly. Let stand upright for 12 hours for the epoxy to cure.
