Designer Jan Page and Joan Steffend use warm garden colors and time-worn furnishings and accessories to create a romantic Old World look in a long and narrow sunporch. They first paint the walls a light yellow, then age them with a 1-to-1 glaze and water mixture. The glaze mixture is applied with a low-nap roller, then rubbed with a soft cloth. A focal point is created in the center of the room with a daybed made from two five-paneled doors. It's topped with a down comforter tucked into a plushy duvet. A lattice canopy overhead adds dimension to the wall. A sisal rug with a stenciled design is placed in front of the bed.

A drop-leaf table is brought in from the kitchen to provide a space for morning coffee or afternoon tea. A thrown-out chandelier with new fringed shades is hung above the bed. Discount wicker chairs are sanded and aged with the glaze mixture and placed in the corner, creating a cozy seating area with the nesting tables and a floor lamp. Finally, Page shares a tip for de-cluttering a bookshelf--keep it 1/3 books, 1/3 collectibles and 1/3 white space.
