Joan Steffend and designer Nan Sloan take on the challenge of transforming a sparsely decorated, oversized bedroom. First, the walls are painted a taupe color that works beautifully against the crisp white trim. The sliding glass door and opposite window are given prominence with floor-to-ceiling window treatments and elegant cornice boards. The bed is addressed next--a faux headboard is created with batting, fabric, fluted casing and corner rosettes and yards of fabric are used to create the illusion of a faux-poster bed. A small garage sale dresser is painted white and set on top of the larger dresser to house the TV. A mirror is painted white and hung inside the former bookcase to create a quaint dressing area. Project: Faux Headboard
- Draw a square on the wall above the bed.
- Staple batting and fabric directly on the wall within the square.
- Cover the raw edges of the fabric with fluted casing and corner rosettes.

- Attach a 1" x 6" board perpendicular to the 1" x 2" board.
