Homeowner Cheryl Olin shares some of the ways she has created a unique home office and living environment without spending a lot of money:
- Garage sale furniture is put to new use in the home office: a hand-me-down cabinet houses a metal filing cabinet and various office supplies, a printer sits atop an old record table and a fax machine rests upon an antique smoking stand.
- The antique iron bed received a new coat of paint and new upholstered cushions. Olin found the fabric at a garage sale and was able to use it on the bed and various pillows. Instead of sewing the pieces, she just tucked the raw fabric under the cushions.
- The salmon color palette in her bedroom was taken from her floral duvet. The back wall is painted the bright salmon color and features handpainted scrolls that act as beautiful art and help balance the off-set window.
- Unusual accessories abound in her bedroom where windowpanes are used for mirror frames, an antique dental cabinet is used for a nightstand and shutters take up space in a corner to add height.
- In the bathroom, a beveled-edge mirror has been glued directly on top of a regular mirror for something unexpected.
