Interior designer Ann Sundet and master craftsman Tim Colleran explain how to create a padded headboard like the one featured in the garden theme bedroom makeover.

Steps:

  1. Use pine boards to create a headboard frame with two openings. Identical padded panels will cover the openings. Carefully measure the bed prior to constructing the frame to ensure that it will fit over the bed's width. Then, simply use plywood boards -- 1x6 for the front pieces, 1x3 for the top, and 1x2 for the sides -- nailed together to form the frame. Paint or stain as desired.
  2. Cut two 5/8" plywood sheets to a size slightly larger than the openings. Cover with two-inch foam, batting and desired fabric. Secure fabric on the back of each panel with a staple gun.
  3. Position one panel over each opening, then drill screws through the back of the frame into the back of the plywood panels to secure each one firmly in place.
