Trash to Treasure: Curio Shelves, Kitchen Utensils, Candles
Decorating Cents : Episode DCT-410 -- More Projects »
An old wooden box makes the perfect foundation for a curio shelf. If it is not possible to find a box in the desired size, one can be made from old floorboards or other discarded wood. Once the box is complete, simply frame it with decorative floor molding. Paint or leave unfinished, depending on the look that will best coordinate with the items to be displayed.
Old utensils can be attached to the inside of a frame to create an interesting wall hanging. Paint the frame as desired, line the inside with poster board and attach the utensils with hot glue.
Antique kitchen items such as standing graters, strainers or other metal objects make striking votive covers. When a candle is lit within the object, its flame will shine through the pattern of the piece and cast beautiful designs around the room.
