Peg Drapery System

Materials:

1/4" thick backing board
wooden pegs
decorative trim molding (two coordinating styles)
drill with 1/2" spade bit
combination square
pencil
wood glue
nail gun
spackle

Steps:

1. Mark the peg positions and use a combination square to make vertical lines in each location on the backing board. Place the bottom trim piece flush with the bottom edge of the backing board and draw a line along the top of it (this is where the bottom edge of the peg holes must be). The featured pegs are half inch in diameter so measure 1/4 inch up from the line to mark the center for drilling (figure A ).

2. Place tape on the drill bit as a depth guide and drill each peg hole as deep as possible without going completely through the backing board.

3. Nail the backing board to the wall and attach the top piece of trim with the bottom edge lined up with the top of the peg holes. Nail the bottom trim in position, using the peg holes as a guide (figure B).

4. Fill the nail holes with spackle, and then prime/paint the piece and pegs as desired.

5. Put glue on the peg ends and push them into the holes, making sure they're straight. Let dry.

Tabbed Curtains

Materials:

matchstick blinds
straightedge
tape measure
scissors
pull saw
cup hooks
tabbed drapes
wire
brass anchors
rope
boat cleats

Steps:

1. To make the matchstick blinds fit within the window casing, center/mark window measurement on the blinds and use a level to draw the necessary width along the length of them. Cut along the lines with scissors and trim the top pole with a pull saw.

2. Screw two cup hooks into the casing and secure pole inside them.

3. Loop roping through the tab tops, adding wire around the intersection of the rope inside the tab to prevent it from slipping (figure C). Let some excess rope fall at the end and add a brass anchor.

4. Hang rope loops over pegs and pull them to the side with a rope tie back secured to boat cleats (figure D).
