Window Toppers
Room by Room : Episode RXR-1013 -- More Projects »
Living Room Topper Steps:
- Cut a piece of lining fabric eight inches wider than the window and four inches longer than the desired finished length.
- Create the front panel by cutting a six-inch wide trim piece and the main color to match the size of the lining when sewn together.
- Sew the lining to the panel on three sides, leaving the top open. Turn right sides out and iron flat.
- Make the center fabric support by cutting a ten-inch wide band of the trim fabric about one yard in length. Fold in half and sew the long edge together. Turn right side out and iron flat.
- Staple the end of the fabric support piece to the center of the mounting board. On the opposite side, attach the topper to the board, starting in the middle. Fold the sides around the end of the board.
- Bring the fabric support to the front and determine how high the center of the topper will be. Staple the support to the board and cut excess.
- Hang with L-brackets.
Office Topper Steps:
- Cut a rectangular base fabric eight inches wider than the window and twice the desired length plus six inches to staple to the mounting board.
- Fold fabric right sides together and sew ends closed. Turn right sides out and iron flat.
- For the top accent fabric, cut two rectangles three inches shorter but just as wide as the base piece. With right sides together and folded in half, draw half of the swag and cut it out.
- Pin cording to the right side of one of the accent pieces and attach using the machine zipper foot. Sew the coordinating accent piece in the same way. Turn right side out and iron.
- Staple both pieces to a 1"x 4" cut to the width of the window and attach to wall with L-brackets.
