Figure A
Learn some of the newest innovations in blinds and shades:
  • Window treatments were originally used to block out the cold while walls and beds were the focus for decoration.
  • With a pull of a cord, the color arrangement on these blinds can be changed. Pair complementary colors or an opaque top/translucent bottom (figure A).
  • Cordless shades not only have an ease of operation (they can be raised and lowered with one finger), they are also safer if small children are around since cords can be dangerous. They come in many colors with white backgrounds for uniformity from the outside.
  • Shutters are expensive so wood blinds are an alternative that can be stained or painted as desired.

    Figure B
  • Mini-blinds have been popular for a long time and now they don't need to be just one color (figure B). The back can still be all white for a uniform look from the outside of your home.
  • When shopping for window treatments, find someone you can work with. Provide samples to give them ideas, tell them your price range and make sure they listen to your needs.
  • Motorized blinds with a remote control or wall switch that raises and lowers them are very popular now. It's an added expense but sometimes necessary for high windows .
