Scalloped Roller Blinds
Create a unique look on a roller blind using paisley designed fabric and a little imagination.

Materials:

roller window shade kit (the Pellon Wonder Shade kit used in this project has been discontinued)
fabric - select fabric with a pattern suitable for a border
iron
rotary cutter or scissors
ruler
sewing machine
thread to match fabric

Steps:

  1. Mount the hardware on either side of your window and put the adjustable roller bar (from the shade kit) in place. Use the width of the installed roller bar to determine the width of the fabric. To find the length to cut the fabric, measure from the roller bar to the bottom of the window and add 12 inches. Cut the fabric according to these dimensions.
  2. Place the fabric wrong side up on a work surface. Place the roller shade product on top of the fabric, adhesive side down.
  3. With the iron on a wool setting, begin fusing the fabric and the shade together. Start from the upper left-hand corner, and press down for five to 15 seconds. Move across the fabric in horizontal rows. Tip: Test the process on some scrap fabric first.
  4. Trim the fabric to the finished size using the rotary cutter and the ruler as a straightedge. If using scissors, be certain to make long, smooth cuts.
  5. Use the liquid seam sealant to keep the fabric from fraying. Do all four edges.
  6. To cut the design away, use the scissors to make long, smooth cuts.
  7. Make a pocket for the bottom bar by folding the bottom of the fabric approximately one inch deep. Stitch across the top of the fold through all the layers.
  8. Insert the bottom bar.
  9. Size the bar by breaking it off at the fabric edge.
  10. For the top bar, place the top edge of the fabric on the bar.
  11. Since the bar is already coated with an adhesive, press the fabric down to secure it into place.
  12. For extra protection, use two-inch wide tape to hold the fabric in place. This is an inside mount, so the tape won't be visible on the finished product.
  13. Place the bar in the brackets.
