Here's another great way to turn an inexpensive vinyl window shade into a showstopper. All that's needed is some creativity and patience.

Materials:

vinyl window shade to fit window
craft knife
ruler or straightedge (clear fabric ruler works well)
pencil
fringe
glue gun and glue

Note: The featured project used a funky, random pattern of geometric shapes as a design. Use any desired designs to customize shades for several rooms.

Steps:

  1. Turn the shade over in order to mark and cut on the back side. Allow adequate distance from either edge so that there will still be support left in the vinyl.
  2. Draw on any desired design.
  3. Cut out design using a craft knife. Be extra cautious on this step, as any mistakes could really stand out.
  4. Once satisfied with the design, use a hot glue gun to attach the fringe to the bottom edge of the shade, if desired. The featured project had a layered look with a short and long fringe.
  5. Install shade according to manufacturer's instructions.
