Here are some ideas for quick, interesting window treatments:
  • To add excitement to neutral off-white drapes, add an easy-to-make valance. Make it reversible for two separate looks. The valance should be 1/3 the length of the window. Cut valance in desired shape (Hiller demonstrates a V-shaped treatment) and add 5/8 inch all around for seam allowance. Be sure to leave a two- to three-inch opening at the top for a continental rod. Add trim or tassels.
  • Make a valance double as a drape. Make a lined rectangle the size of the window , leaving an opening at the top for the hanging rod (figure A).
  • Make tie-shaped strips from decorator fabric three feet long and three inches wide . Attach a bell on the bottom. Tie the fabric around a wood rod (figure B ).
  • Use leather laces to hang a denim shower curtain on two medium-size sticks the width of the window (figure C).
