No-Sew Window Treatments

Room by Room : Episode RXR-109 -- More Projects »
Materials:

1" x 4" pine board (the width of the window)
2 three-inch L-brackets
screws
staple gun and staples
iron
ironing board
2d penny nails
fabric - the length of the window plus four inches, width a minimum of eight inches wider than window

Steps:
  1. Press fabric flat. Attach the top of the fabric to the pine board. Line up the top edge of the fabric with the edge of the pine board (when the board is laying flat). At this point the fabric should be covering the board. Now center the material on the board so that any extra fabric overlaps the edges by the same amount on each side. Using the staple gun, staple across the fabric until you feel it will be secure. Holding the board up, but still in that flat position, wrap any extra fabric on the sides around the short edges of the board and staple to the top of the board.
  2. Mount the L-brackets evenly above the window, so that they just touch the top of the window molding. Place the pine board with the fabric attached on top of the L-brackets and screw them in tight.
  3. Starting with your hands at the bottom of the hanging fabric, start by folding the bottom back toward the window about four inches, then fold back toward yourself in the opposite direction. Fold again toward the window, then again toward yourself , on and on until you meet up with the board. Make sure all of the folds are even , and then tack the material to the board in the exact center of both the board and material, using the nails. Allow the material to hang down from the sides, meeting in the center. Once the fabric is tacked in, dress the folds, and you'll have a beautiful no-sew topper for any window! This no-sew drapery gets a truly professional look when you use a fabric with a strong vertical stripe. Be extra careful when tacking the material to the board to make sure the stripes meet.
