Figure A
Sewing expert Sally Cheney opens up a fresh window in decorating by bringing the outside in with a rustic window treatment.

Materials:

three coordinating fabrics
interfacing
serger

Steps:

  1. To make the horizontal strips, put two of the fabrics together (wrong sides together) and cut strips three inches wide. To determine the dimensions, measure your window width and add three inches for each twist.
  2. Serge around the edges to finish it off. If you don't have a serger, put right sides together, sew around three of the edges, turn right-side out and stitch the fourth side closed.
  3. Cut eight vertical strips five inches wide. Place a piece of interfacing in between two strips (wrong sides togeher) and serge around the edges. Repeat with the six other strips.
  4. Lay the horizontal strips on a flat surface. Place one of the horizontal strips on one edge and glue or stitch together.
  5. Twist each vertical strip (figure A); attach the second horizontal strip and glue or stitch together. Repeat for the other two horizontal strips.
