Watch the Video: Create a whole new drapery out of store-bought drapes.
Materials:

4 drapery panels per window (2 of each color) (Bed Bath & Beyond)
grosgrain ribbon
cutting mat
rotary cutter

Steps:

1. Measure the distance from the top of the rod (or rod pocket), the chair rail and the distance from the floor to the base of the chair rail. For the featured project, the floor to the chair rail is 30 inches, the chair rail itself is three inches and the distance from the chair rail to the rod is 51 inches.
2. With these measurements in mind, cut the top drape to 51 inches plus one inch for the seam allowance. For the bottom brown panel, cut it (from the bottom hem) 30 inches plus the chair rail height of three inches plus one inch for seams for a total of 34 inches. Adjust measurements as necessary.
3. Line up the cut edges with right sides together and pin in place. Sew the pieces together using a one-inch seam. To make a flat-felled seam, cut the excess seam allowance fabric off the brown side close to the stitching. Fold a double hem using the other side of the seam allowance and pin it in place. Stitch along the fold on the wrong side of the fabric.
4. Pin the grosgrain ribbon in place so the top of it is right where the two panels meet. Stitch it along the top and bottom to hold it in position.
5. Repeat for the remaining panels.
