Figure C
Designer Jan Britt explains how to add a finishing touch to windows by creating an elegant no-sew classic swag window dressing.

Materials:

4-1/2 yds. of fabric (at a minimum)
safety and straight pins
swag holders
clicker gun (optional)

Steps:

  1. Place two safety pins in the center of the fabric, then fan fold (figure A) . The pins serve as a guide to the center of the fabric.

  2. Place the fabric on top of the swag holders. The pins must be in the center of the window.

  3. Pull the bottom part of the swag fabric down toward the center while holding the fabric above the swag holder in place (figure B). You need at least five pleats to make the swag.

  4. To complete the sides, you will want to create a fake seam by pulling the corner closest to the window back and up (toward you), then secure that corner at the top of the swag holder. Use straight pins all the way up the seam to keep the seam in place or secure with a clicker gun (figure C). This completes the jabot.

  5. Remove the safety pins from the center of the swag.
