Steps:
  1. Measure the window width and cut a 1" x 4" piece of poplar to this length.
  2. Rout around all edges for decoration or sand away square edges for a softer look.

  • Mark where the pegs (wood drawer pulls) will go by coming in an inch from the end, and then mark every two or four inches, depending on the size of the drapery (figure A).
  • Drill pilot holes and pass a screw from the back to the front to attach knobs.

  • To mount, begin by drilling two countersink holes and leave room for wooden buttons to hide them once in place (figure B).

  • Find the center of the window and make a mark. Use a level to draw a line where the bottom of the board will be mounted above the window trim (figure C).

  • Hold the board with one hand and use an awl to poke holes where the mounting screws will go (through the countersink holes).
  • Insert the screws and cover them with the wooden buttons. Paint or stain as desired. Once dry, tie fabric panels in place to complete (figure D).
