Cindy Piccoli uses a French wash technique to decorate muslin curtains with a sponge and washable fabric paint.

Steps:

  1. Choose colors of fabric paint that coordinate with the room. Shake the paint very well before using it since it will be thin.
  2. Pour the paint on a disposable plastic plate. If the paint is not well shaken, stir it on the plate.
  3. Use a sea sponge if possible. If using a cellulose sponge, tear pieces off and pick bits out of it to remove any straight edges.
  4. Wet the sponge, and wring it out. Dip it into the paint, and dab off any excess paint on a paper plate.
  5. Dab the paint randomly on the fabric until the desired effect is achieved. Repeat the process with a second color, if desired. Tip: For a child's room, use shaped sponges to create animals, clowns, etc.
