Materials:
Optimum Art Glass mosaic pieces
Surebonder FPC 9000 adhesive and sealant
white grease pencil
picture frame with glass
additional sheet of glass cut to same size as frame glass (use Plexi-glas, if desired)
photograph or artwork that is significantly smaller than the frame
Steps:
- Remove the back of picture frame and the sheet of glass. Center the picture or artwork on the glass and outline it using a grease pencil. Remove the photograph or artwork.
- Using the grease pencil, draw a second line around the perimeter of the glass 1/4 inch in from the edge of the glass.
- Use a clear-drying glass bonding glue to adhere individual glass mosaic pieces inside the grease pencil lines, creating a framed mosaic look on the glass. Allow to dry. Remove the grease pencil marks.
- Place the glass in the back of the frame, smooth side down.
- After cutting filler cardboard to size, place the photograph or artwork face down in the outlined, center area of the glass in the frame.
- Position the cardboard filler pieces on the back of the photograph or artwork to build it to the height of the glass mosaic pieces.
- Place a second sheet of glass over the filler cardboard to replace the frame back. Use the mechanism (usually small metal tabs or brads) included with the frame to secure the glass and photograph or artwork in the frame.
