Materials:
picture frames with backings
Victorian pictures*
white glue
hot glue
scissors
small cosmetic scissors
beads
pictures from postcards
gold marker
optional: beads or jewelry
* Copyright-free materials with numerous prints of every size and color are available in books at craft shops and bookstores. Pictures from postcards are also suitable.
Steps:
- Begin with a blank picture frame that is equipped with backing.
- Remove the backing to use as a building surface. Set aside.
- Select pictures in different sizes and shapes. (One or two fairly large pieces and a few smaller, complementary pieces work best.)
- Use regular scissors to cut out desired pieces of photographs, then trim the cutouts with cosmetic scissors.
- Experiment with the collage design by placing cutouts onto the frame backing without gluing the pieces down.
- Once satisfied with the design arrangement, attach pieces to frame backing with white glue (figure A).
- Hot glue beads and additional jewelry if desired.
- Use the gold marker to cover the entire frame surface or to accent it slightly (figure B).
