Designer Amy DeVault shopped at discount stores, garage sales and flea markets when looking for items to furnish her client's first home. Here's how she created a seamless, designer look with little money:
- The walls and woodwork throughout the home are one neutral color, which serves as a backdrop for the many different textures, hues and materials in the space.
- In the living room, light- and dark-colored elements come together through pillows, bamboo blinds and wicker accessories.
- A bedroom dresser is used in the living room for additional storage.
- A dark tabletop in the breakfast nook balances the all-white built-in space.
- The side tables in the bedrooms can be used for more than holding a lamp. DeVault says the key is to find interchangeable furnishings that can be used in various places in your home.
- A vintage look is present in the various fabrics. DeVault says the key to using multiple prints and patterns is to keep them all in the same color tone and style.
- The master bathroom again blends light- and dark-colored elements, with white walls and floors and dark accessories. A ladder is used to hold towels and baskets are used to hold bathroom necessities.
