Figure A--There is a warmth and timelessness that comes with a log home, but in this case, the home is not quite four years old. Guest Susan Welch Heeney, an interior designer, used a lot of materials that were already antiques and strove to create a feeling of historical significance tied to the log-cabin look.

Figure B--To enhance the rustic feel of the home, Heeney decided to keep the ceilings open and keep an unfinished look about them. What would have been wood and mud hundreds of years ago, however, has now given way to 21st-century building materials. This latex-based product actually contracts and expands with the temperature, so as the weather changes, there are no air leaks.

Figure C--This stained-glass window carries the suggestion of antiques through the modern kitchen decor.
