Entertaining French Country Style

Decorate your table in the French Country style with layered linen in bright Mediterranean colors, like blue, yellow, red and green.

We fill our homes with country furnishings and plant our yards with herbs and flowers, but how much attention do we really pay to giving that warm country touch to the way we entertain? Tricia Robinson may not be French, but in her years of living in Nice, she's learned a thing or two and just may well inspire you.

To entertain the French Country way:

• Begin by dressing your table in a comfortable, informal fashion. Rather than using fine china, fill the table with dishes and pottery pieces with rough textures and natural colors.
• Layer on the linens. Use a plain beige linen tablecloth underneath and then cover it with traditional Provencal fabrics in bright colors and distinctive patterns.
• Adorn the table with a simple centerpiece. A few flowers and berries strewn about the table will provide just enough decoration.
