Colonial Bedroom

The unusual ceiling fan made of large paddles adds texture and interest up high. The light blue walls, dark woods and timeless accessories complete this wonderful British Colonial/West Indies look.

Dawn Causa of Fine Decorators, Inc. was asked to create a fantasy bedroom in a beachfront condo and did so by bringing in a British Colonial feel. The striking English wood pieces provide the groundwork for the room's design and include a wicker bed and settee. Two columns visually separate the sleeping area from a seating nook, which includes an overstuffed raffia chair and ottoman, a classic English armoire and a beautifully proportioned Colonial-era desk.

Fabrics were kept simple on the bed, with a creamy matelasse bedspread and a mix of colorful pillows, while mosquito netting provides interest above the bed. Sepia-toned pictures depicting scenes from the Colonial era further the room's theme. Bamboo valances and tropical drapes frame the windows and patio that look out on Key Biscayne. Overall, a truly unique sleeping experience.
