The sheer fabric draping over the bed in the master bedroom creates a dramatic focal point upon entering the space.
Kitty Bartholomew visits with designer Janet Lohman to discuss how she has created a timeless, English country design inside her Hansel and Gretel-style home.
  • Reproduction furniture found at flea markets and estate sales make up the majority of furnishings throughout her home.
  • Chairs of all design styles offer abundant seating in the living room. Chintz is Lohman's fabric of choice on the sofa and on many of the chairs. She explains that the fabric handles wear and tear well and takes on a comfortable, worn look as it continues to age.
  • The entryway features a green ceiling and a faux marble finish on the walls.
  • Stripe-on-stripe raspberry red wallpaper in the dining room combines both a feminine and masculine style.
  • Fire-engine red walls in the den are an appropriate background for the masculine furnishings and accessories.
  • Lohman filled the master bedroom with painted furniture in different shades of blue and green.
  • In the kitchen, textured yellow walls complement the soft turquoise ceiling, which was created to remind Lohman of the blue sky in one of her painted English landscapes.
