Designer Sheldon Harte believes that contemporary homes don't have to be cold and to prove it, he and Kitty Bartholomew take viewers on a tour of an outstanding contemporary home in Laguna Beach, Calif. Harte's use of texture, earth-tone fabrics and interesting materials adds a lot of warmth to the streamlined look of this modern home.

In the living room, he uses rich brown velvet fabrics for the sofa and chairs and a large tapestry on the wall. In the kitchen, he added copper inlay to the cabinets to give the room a soft glow. In the powder room, he layered the large mirror with antique glass for a timeworn look.
