Before: The Ferraz's dining room is crowded, cold and doesn't reflect the homeowners as it's been the same since Michelle was a child living in the house. The couple wants to update it, but have no idea where to start.
After: Five bands of color create an elegant background, while paring down on furniture and accessories highlights special items. An unexpected hole behind the china cabinet revealed an opportunity for sleek built-in shelving to display favorite pieces.
Michelle and Larry Ferraz have inherited her family's house and many large projects and pieces within it. When designer Karen McAloon learns their favorite things are dinner parties and theater performances, she creates a glamorous art deco dining room for them to entertain and showcase their collection of playbills!
Believe it or not, this fabulous artwork started out as an unattractive painting destined for the trash! A fresh coat of beige and highlighting the original built-up paint strokes using a rag and a single color completely transforms the piece. It's flanked by sconces originally designed as ceiling fixtures.
A wooden sconce made in grade school shop class functions nicely as a book holder, while scrap lumber frames favorite playbills and also becomes a candelabrum.
