Interior Designer Barry Lantz shows how to build decorating schemes on a few small choices. He starts with one set of swatches and items, changes out some to create a new decorating style, and also adds some to create yet another decorating style. Here are his tips:

  • Start with traditional fabrics, colors and patterns (figure A).

  • Rule out colors that don’t especially appeal to you.

  • Start with fabrics you like and then determine where to use those fabrics.
