Kitty Bartholomew and faux artist Joe Fenzl refresh the stenciled ceiling in the mayor's office in Los Angeles.

Steps:

  1. Patch ceiling or wall as needed. Re-create the stencil pattern using Mylar or acetate (it must be clear). Trace the design onto the Mylar, shifting the piece over to get two full pattern portions (figure A). Cut pattern out with an X-acto knife .
  2. Once two repeats of the pattern are cut, line up the good section, allowing the stencil pattern to be in line with the damaged portion.
  3. Apply color until satisfied (figure B).
