Steps:
Stones:
- Use a foam roller to apply a tan latex paint base coat to the canvas floorcloth. This will be the grout color. Allow the paint to dry then apply another coat. Repeat the painting process for back of floorcloth.
- Cut the sponge into a stone shape using the craft knife (figure A) and save the sponge scraps.
- Pour the Chocolate Brown stamping paint onto a paper plate.
- Slightly moisten the sponge with water. Dip the stone-shaped sponge into paint. Lightly blot the sponge on a paper towel to remove the excess paint from the sponge. Stamp the sponge onto floorcloth. Re-apply paint to the sponge, and sponge on additional stones, leaving approximately _" space on all sides of rock (figure B). Note: Vary the positioning of the stone when stamping to create a more realistic stone floor appearance.
- Using a small piece of the reserved sponge scraps, dip into the various acrylic paint colors like White and Wedgewood Green to accent the previously stamped brown stones. Vary the color sponged onto brown stones for realism. Use the toothbrush or splatter tool with black paint to splatter the floorcloth with tiny spatters of black paint. Allow the paint to dry.
Floral Embellishment: - Pour a small amount of the Sweetheart Blush, Red, Wedgewood Green and Hunter Green stamping paint onto the paper plate.
- Using the flat edge of the wedge-shaped applicator sponge, load a small amount of the Sweetheart Blush paint onto the sponge, and pat the paint onto the rose head portion of the stamp.
- Use a separate sponge for the Red paint, and accent the rose head portion with Red.
- Repeat the process using a separate sponge for the Wedgewood Green to pat paint onto the leaf portion of the stamp. Use another sponge to apply Hunt Green to accent the foliage.
- Stamp the rose head onto the floor cloth, and repeat the entire process to stamp additional floral design onto floor cloth.
- Clean the stamp thoroughly with water and dry with a paper towel. Apply two shades of green to one of the leaves of the rose head stamp. Stamp additional leaves onto floor cloth.
- Use a small paintbrush to add stems and veining to the foliage with Hunter Green and Brown paint (figure C).
- Dilute a small amount of gray stamping paint with water. Use a fine paintbrush to add shadows to the floral design and foliage to create depth.
- Allow the paints to dry before protecting the floorcloth with a water-based acrylic varnish. Apply two to three coats of the varnish with a foam paintbrush, allowing each coat to dry before adding additional coats.
