Materials:
chest of drawers

wooden drawer knobs
brass upholstery tacks
water-based polyurethane, gloss finish
Steps:
- Prepare the chest of drawers by removing pulls and filling any holes or cracks with wood putty; let dry. Sand well, then wipe lightly with a tack cloth.
- Apply two to three coats of red acrylic paint to drawer fronts and sides, letting each coat dry before adding the next. Paint top of the chest and any remaining areas with black acrylic. Paint the knobs with black acrylic paint, then set aside. Let dry.
- Stamp each of the drawer fronts with the swirl foam stamp and gold stamping paint.
- Condition one ounce of gold clay and roll it into a ball. Press a drawer knob into the ball, flattening it until it molds around the knob's edges. Make sure that the clay surface on the front of the knob is flat.
- Use the swirl rubber stamp to print an all-over pattern in the clay on the front of the knob. Repeat this step for the remaining knobs.
- Divide two ounces of red-golden clay into fourths. Condition each piece and roll it into a ball. Flatten the ball slightly, then press firmly on top of the gold clay.
- Ink the swirl rubber stamp with black pigment ink, and then stamp the red clay with a circular design. Press a brass upholstery tack into the center of the red clay. Repeat this step for the remaining knobs.
- Follow the label instructions on the clay to cure the knobs in an oven; let cool.
- Seal the clay on the knobs with a coat of polyurethane. Let dry before screwing into the drawers.
Tip: Use various design stamps, colors of clay, and colors of paint to customize this technique to fit any decor.
