Make a useful kitchen organizer from an unfinished wood chest embellished with a mix of fruit stamps. Wood frames and other wood accessories may be embellished to coordinate with the chest and, in turn, the decor.
Materials:
unfinished wooden chest with drawers
acrylic or latex paint in ivory
assorted rubber stamps
black fabric ink pad
stamp cleaner
assorted stamping or acrylic paints
artist's brushes
water-based polyurethane
black permanent marker
optional: antiquing medium
Steps:
- Paint the chest with an ivory paint, and antique it if desired. Allow it to dry thoroughly.
- Ink the stamps with a fabric ink, and stamp the painted wood surface. Re-ink the stamp after each impression, and clean the stamp when finished.
- Dilute the various stamping or acrylic paint colors with plenty of water, and color the stamped images with an artist's brush.
- Add shading to the foliage and fruit with various colors.
- Use a black permanent marker to embellish the stamped images with words. Allow it to dry.
- Protect the wood with a water-based polyurethane finish.
