Materials:

canvas roller shade
shellac
brush
stencils
paint
stencil brushes
varnish

Steps:
  1. Apply a thin coat of shellac to the roller shade and let dry.
  2. To make your own stencils, use stencil paper or make some by coating flax paper with oil and varnish. Use a piece of glass as the work surface
  3. Trace a design onto the paper, and cut it out with a razor knife, turning the paper rather than the knife while cutting.
  4. Hold or tape the stencils in place, and dab paint into each, working with an almost-dry brush.
  5. When the shade is completely stenciled, give it a final coat of varnish.
