Materials:

Paint-A-Patio stencils
DecoArt Patio paints
primed canvas floor cloth
natural sea sponges
mini-rollers
foam brushes
1/2" and 1/4" stencil brushes
palette (plastic plates)
water
paper towels
low-tack masking tape
base paint
mini-rollers or foam brushes

Steps:

  1. Use a floor cloth primed with base paint. Apply any color of Patio Paint with the mini-rollers or foam brushes, and allow it to dry.
  2. Pour some of the Patio Paint onto the plastic plates to create the palette.
  3. Dip the sea sponges into the water. Make sure to wring out the water thoroughly.
  4. Secure the stencils to the floor cloth with small pieces of masking tape.
  5. Dip a sea sponge into a color. Using the larger stencil patterns such as the bricks, rocks, tiles, or stepping stones, sponge the shapes with paint. (The more colors used when sponging, the more realistic the finished results will appear.)
  6. Once the paint has dried, place one of the smaller stencils, such as a frog, lizard, or butterfly, onto the floor cloth. The smaller stencils can be placed on the larger patterns or on any painted areas.
  7. Dip a 1/2" stencil brush into a dark color like black, brown, or dark green. Use a paper towel to blot off any extra paint from the brush, and stencil the body of the creature.
  8. Lift up the stencil, and allow the paint to dry for a few minutes.
  9. Realign the same stencil over the body. Using the 1/4" brush, stencil in the same manner as before with a lighter color to create depth.
