Robb Whittlef shares how to make functional and decorative objects out of vintage plates.
Dessert Tray
Using a ceramic drill bit, drill a hole into the centers of three plates and thread each on a lamp rod. Attach the entire piece to a lamp base.
Candle Sconces
Drill a hole into a plate and add a candle sconce attachment (available at building centers and craft stores).
Decorative Mosaic Tray
Place a towel over a plate and small mirror and break with a hammer (remember to protect your eyes with safety glasses). Adhere the plate and mirror chards onto a tray to resemble a place setting. Add grout and allow to dry. (Do not serve food off the tray--it should be used for decorative purposes only.)
