Create a door valance using similar materials--scrap wood and doorknobs. Bolt the knobs in from the end and drape fabric and tassels over for a dramatic look.

Plate Rack

Materials:

doorknobs
scrap wood
sandpaper
plates
tape measure
drill
pencil
bolts
glue
wire

Steps:

  1. Clean the wood as desired with sandpaper or cleaner. Put the plates in desired positions along the wood and figure out doorknob placement. Be sure the two doorknobs per plate are placed far enough apart to hold them securely.
  2. Use measuring tape to ensure the knobs are equidistant and centered on the board and mark accordingly. Drill holes and glue knobs in place over bolts.
  3. Once dry, hang the rack with wire and put plates in place.

Serving Tray

Materials:

old window frame
tin snips
sheet metal
plywood
staple gun
screws
swinging brackets
drill
wood glue
4 small drawer knobs
2 handles
awl
hammer

Steps:

  1. Remove glass if necessary. Cut plywood to the size of the pane openings.
  2. Trace plywood pieces onto sheet metal and cut. Staple metal to one side of plywood .
  3. Attach plywood pieces to frame with screws and swinging brackets. This enables the pieces to be removed for cleaning.
  4. Drill a hole for the feet in each corner. Fill them with glue and put the knobs in place.
  5. Flip the tray over and add handles to make it easy to pick up. Tap a pattern in the metal with a hammer and awl if desired.
