Convert a window into a one-of-a-kind coffee table. This particular one came from Ozzie and Harriet's home!
Materials:

window with frame
sandpaper
chicken wire
wood slats from Venetian blinds
chicken wire
wood screws
wood glue
scrap wood (cut to size)
hammer
nails
molding
decorative metal rosette
hinges
paint
paintbrushes

Steps:

  1. Sand window frame to get rid of loose paint.
  2. Use wood slats cut to fit the frame to attach chicken wire that has also been cut to fit the window.
  3. Set the wire over the window, lay the wooden slats over it and attach them to the window frame with screws (figure A). Repeat this process for the top and sides of the frame.
  4. Create a planter box using scrap wood. Apply glue to the edges of the wood, set the pieces in place and nail along the bottom and sides of the frame to secure them (figure B).
  5. Add three pieces of pre-cut molding along the top and sides of the planter box for a finished look by applying wood glue, and then securing it with nails.
  6. Add metal rosette to the frame.
  7. Attach hinges to the top with screws. Use these and wire to hang the box if desired.
  8. Paint the planter. Once dry, fill with plants.
