Shelving unit
Robb Whittlef shows Joan Steffend how to make a bedside table out of a maitre'd stand, picture frames out of cutting boards and a shelving unit out of an old garage organizer.

Bedside Table

Take a maitre'd stand and turn it into a nightstand complete with a magazine rack. Cut off the legs for the desired height and add a magazine rack on the side. Paint it one color on the interior and exterior for a finished look.

Cutting Board Picture Frames

Outline the size of a picture on the cutting board and cut out the space using a jigsaw. Add decorative trim molding around the inside of the frame and tack in small nails. For the back, cut a piece of cardboard to size and tack nails around each side and bend down over the cardboard. Tack in two larger nails on the bottom for the stand.

Shelving Unit

Use an old garage shelving unit for a mudroom organizer on wheels. Add a piece of wood to the front of each shelf and attach platelets to the board in front of each shelf space. Add wheels to the bottom, attach chicken wire to the back and paint it red inside and out for an eclectic country look. This is a fun way to keep homework, shoes and other personal belongings organized anywhere in the house.
