Put a plant and a top on a painted shopping cart for extra accent tables in the garden, on the deck or even inside.

For a variation, add S-hooks to hold barbeque tools and a basket for napkins, an apron, salt and pepper, etc.
Materials:

shopping cart
scrap wood fencing
sandpaper
rustproof paint
polyurethane stain
tape measure
pencil
wood glue
hammer
finishing nails
screwdriver
screws

Steps:

  1. Sand and clean the cart to remove any loose dirt. Paint in desired color.
  2. Measure the top of the cart and cut scrap fencing to fit. Apply wood glue to the two support pieces and place on the backside of the top pieces (figure A).
  3. Secure the top with finishing nails and apply a coat of polyurethane to protect the wood from weathering.
  4. Place a plant in the base of the cart and add the top, which should fit snuggly onto the cart.
